Approved Programs in Spain

Consortium for Advanced Studies in Barcelona (affiliated with Princeton)
Location: Barcelona
Dates: early September to late December for fall; mid-January to late June for spring
Language of instruction: Spanish, Catalan
Courses: wide range of courses offered by three universities (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra). Courses are available in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, art, and architecture. Students in the spring cannot take classes at Pompeu Fabra.
Housing: singles in a university residence hall
Application deadlines: September 30 for spring; March 15 for fall/year. The CASB Application (.doc) and the CASB General Information Form (.pdf) are available in the Office of International Programs or online. Students should complete these forms, secure the required references and transcript, and submit materials directly to the Office of International Programs before the deadline.

CIEE Study Center at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
Location: Getafe
Dates: early September to mid-December or early January for fall; late January to late May or late June for spring
Language of instruction: Spanish
Courses: program courses in Hispanic studies as well as regular university courses in humanities, social sciences, and engineering
Housing: shared apartment with a Spanish host and other students
Application deadlines: October 15 for spring; April 1 for fall; March 1 for year
Other information: evaluation on file. This program is for students with strong Spanish language skills. Excellent choice if you want to study alongside Spanish students in smaller classes. Getafe is about 20 minutes from the city of Madrid. Students may also attend this institution through Middlebury.

Universidad de Granada through IES Abroad
Location: Granada
Dates: early September to mid/late December for fall; mid/late January to late May or mid-June for spring
Language of instruction: Spanish
Courses: program courses in Spanish language and Islamic and Andalusian studies and university courses in fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences
Housing: homestay, residence hall, or "Colegios Mayores"
Application deadlines: November1 for spring; May 1 for fall/year (Princeton deadline)

Boston University, Advanced Language and University Studies and Honors Program
Location: Madrid
Dates: early September to mid-May for year; mid-January to mid-May for spring (mid-June if enrolled in courses at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid)
Language of instruction: Spanish
Courses: program courses in the humanities, social sciences, Spanish language and literature, area studies, and courses at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid for spring semester and full-year students

Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain
Location: Madrid

IES Abroad, Universidad de Salamanca
Location: Salamanca

Language of instruction: Spanish
Courses: program courses in art history, economics, history, literature, political science, religion, sociology, and Spanish language, as well as regular courses at the University of Salamanca in the humanities, social sciences, natural and physical sciences

University of Cantabria (exchange in engineering with Princeton)
Location:
Santander
Dates: late September through mid-February for fall; mid-February through June for spring. Note: It is possible to take final exams at UC early in order to return for the start of Princeton’s spring semester.
Language of instruction: English and Spanish
Courses: in English for fall: Engineering Computation, Strength of Materials, Ethics in Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering. In English for Spring:  Foundation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Analysis, Energy Systems, Coastal Engineering, Engineering Economics and Management, and Uncertainty Analysis in Engineering. A course on Prehistoric European Art, offered in English, takes advantage of the large number of Palaeolithic cave paintings in the area of Cantabria. Students with a sufficient level of Spanish can choose to take engineering and science courses from the general course catalog.
Housing: Private flats shared with other students
Application deadlines: April 12 for fall; November 1 for spring (Princeton deadlines); submit materials directly to the Office of International Programs before the deadline.
Other information: Engineering students studying at UC for the spring term will have the option to participate in a summer internship. The internship possibilities include research placements at UC as well as work placements in public civil engineering offices and private construction companies. Some of the companies with which UC has ties include Ferrovia, ACS, Gamesa, and Acciona.

Junior Year in Spain, Sweet Briar College
Location: Seville
Dates: late August to mid-December for fall; early January to mid-May for spring
Language of instruction: Spanish
Courses: regular courses at the University of Seville in the humanities and social sciences, and courses for foreigners
Housing: homestay, some student residences
