Fees & Payments for Study Abroad
Princeton does not charge a study abroad fee.
Students who participate in one of the following reciprocal exchange programs or in one of the Tropical Biology Programs offered by the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology pay regular Princeton tuition and, if applicable, the premium for the Student Health Plan. All other expenses are paid directly to the service provider by the student. Princeton has exchange programs with Oxford University (in Biochemistry, Engineering, History, Philosophy, and Physics), École Centrale and Sciences Po in Paris, Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and Freie Universität Berlin through the Berlin Consortium for German Studies.
Students who enroll directly in an overseas university as a visiting student or who attend Princeton-approved or Princeton-affiliated study abroad programs do not pay Princeton tuition. They pay only the program’s tuition and other fees charged by the service provider. In a few cases, the foreign institution’s tuition and some fees may, by special agreement with Princeton University, be invoiced through the Student Accounts Office at Princeton. Such arrangements will be detailed in the participant’s letter confirming approval to study abroad. If the student is enrolled in Princeton’s Student Health Plan, Princeton will bill the student for the premium.
Students on financial aid may use their aid towards the cost of studying abroad during the academic year.
Students who withdraw from a study abroad program after their Princeton Study Abroad Approval Form has been processed will be assessed a $500 late withdrawal fee. Students who withdraw from a program/university are also subject to the refund and academic credit policy of the organization sponsoring their program.
