Approved Programs in Scotland (United Kingdom)

You may apply directly to many of these universities, or you may apply through Arcadia University's Center for Education Abroad or Butler University's Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA-Butler). Application deadlines may differ, depending upon whether you apply directly or through a U.S. program. In all cases, early applications are encouraged. The earliest of the published deadlines is listed in the entries below.

University of Edinburgh
Location: Edinburgh
Dates: mid-September to mid-December for fall; early January to late May for spring
Language of instruction: English
Courses: biology, engineering, the humanities, languages, music, physical sciences, religion/theology, and Scottish studies. Special strengths in computer science, economics and social history, electrical engineering, geography, natural sciences, and sociology.
Housing: Residence halls, apartments
Application deadlines: November 1 for spring; May 1 for fall/year (Princeton deadline)
Other information: evaluation on file. Students studying abroad for the year may apply for a $15,000 scholarship from the St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia.

University of St. Andrews
Location: Fife
Dates: late September to end of January for fall; early February to late May for spring
Language of instruction: English
Courses: art history, classical studies, ecology/environmental studies, English, religion/theology, sciences, and social sciences; strong departments in history, philosophy, and psychology
Housing: residence halls, apartments
Application deadlines: October 31 for spring; April 15 for fall/year, but admission offers are made on a rolling basis, and spaces are limited at this popular university.
Other information: evaluation on file. Teaching is organized on a semester calendar very much like Princeton's. Students studying abroad for the year may apply for a $15,000 scholarship from the St. Andrew’s Society of Philadelphia.

University of Glasgow
Location: Glasgow, Scotland
Dates: early September to late May for full year; early January to late May for spring
Language of instruction: English
Courses: computer science, engineering, English, history, Russian studies, science, Scottish studies, social sciences, and theater studies
Housing: residence halls
Application deadlines: October 20 for spring; May 1 for year
