Approved Programs in England (United Kingdom)

You may apply directly to many of these universities, or you may apply through Arcadia University's College for Global Studies or Butler University's Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA-Butler). Application deadlines may differ, depending upon whether you apply directly or through a U.S. program. In all cases, early applications are encouraged, especially for universities in London. The earliest of the published deadlines is listed in the entries below.

University of Bath

Housing: college or college-owned housing
Application deadlines: February 15 for the following spring; January 15 for the following year. Apply through IFSA-Butler for full-year option or directly to Pembroke for the spring only. Completed applications must be submitted to the Office of International Programs. Places are in high demand; apply very early.

University of Leeds
Location: Leeds

Other information: Evaluation on file. Leeds has special strengths in chemistry, English, geology, and music.

Architectural Association School of Architecture
Location: London
Dates: early January to mid-May (spring only)

Courses:  core design studio and elective courses from the AA undergraduate history and theory seminars, media, and technical study programs

Application deadline: September 16 for spring

London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA)
Location: London
Dates: early September to mid-December for fall; mid-January to mid-April for spring
Language of instruction: English
Courses: conservatory program focused on acting, movement, and voice; dramatic works in the fall are from Shakespearean and Jacobean drama; in the spring, from Shakespearen and Restoration drama.
Housing: Students must find their own housing.
Application deadlines: LAMDA has no set deadlines for their single semester courses, but early application is strongly advised as places are limited
Other information: evaluation on file. This program is open only to students who have demonstrated a serious commitment to acting and are pursuing a certificate in theater or dance.

Royal College of Music (affiliated with Princeton)
Location: London
Dates: mid-September to mid-December (fall only)

Courses: aural skills, musical analysis, music history, music performance
Housing: Students must find their own housing.
Application deadlines: Application process begins with an audition in March.

The following eight colleges/institutes are all part of the University of London, a federation of more than 40 colleges and institutes, ranging in size from small, specialized institutes to large multifaculty colleges, which are similar to other U.K. universities.

Courtauld Institute of Art
Location: London
Dates: late September to late June; full year preferred
Language of instruction: English

Application deadline: end of March for fall or full year; beginning of October for spring
Other information: Princeton students may compete for the Kurland/David Scholarship, which covers one year of tuition at the Courtauld. Students may also choose to attend fall semester at the Courtauld via Boston University's London Art History Program with the Courtauld Institute of Art.

Other information: Evaluation on file. King's is especially noted for its courses in the biological sciences, classical studies, and war studies. A yearlong security/defence studies program and a special spring program in English literature with a two-week component at either the Globe or the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art have been introduced. Students in politics have had on-site advisers at King's for junior papers.

London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
Location: London
Dates: full year only, from late September to early July
Language of Instruction: English
Courses: anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, law, philosophy, political science/politics, psychology, social policy, sociology, and statistics
Housing: residence halls and apartments
Application deadlines: January 15. LSE has rolling admissions beginning in September. Places are in very high demand, and early applications are therefore encouraged. Applications submitted after January 15 will be considered only if places are still available on the relevant degree program.

Queen Mary
