New licensing for Adobe software
Adobe has announced a new licensing program for higher education. This new program allows for subscription to the full Creative Cloud or subscription to a single application and includes two options for licensing: named user license and device license. Both license types will be sold through the OIT Online Store.
A 'named user license' is purchased for a particular individual and may be used on multiple devices by that individual. When purchasing this type of license, you will be asked to enter the end user’s name. If you are purchasing Adobe software for faculty or staff, please be sure to enter the name of the faculty or staff member when prompted. An email with download instructions will be sent to them.
A 'device license' is purchased for a specific computer, and may be used by multiple individuals on that one device. Adobe device licenses will be made available through the OIT Online Store beginning July 1, 2014.
License costs will be prorated on a 12-month basis, with a new one-year subscription beginning every June 13.
Note: Adobe Creative Suite 6 (CS6) will be available for sale through the OIT Online Store through June 30, 2014. After this date, it will no longer be offered for sale. CS6 is the last version of the Creative Suite and is not eligible for upgrade. Future versions of the software will only be available through the Creative Cloud subscription service.
DeSC and Concurrent Licensing
Concurrent licensing is no longer available from Adobe. Some Princeton departments own concurrent licenses, purchased under our old CLP agreement. Departments may continue to use the concurrent licenses they own, however, the version of these licenses will never be upgraded.
DeSC will continue to offer the current version of Adobe software licensed under concurrent licensing at least through the fall.
Acrobat Pro is one product that we can continue to purchase under the CLP agreement. Acrobat Pro is included in Creative Cloud, but it is also still sold as a license, with or without maintenance.
