Internet Explorer 8 installed on University computers

OIT is pleased to announce that on January 15, 2010, the current Internet Explorer 7 program installed on many University computers was replaced by the new, updated Internet Explorer 8 program. IE8 was installed on all University managed Windows computers automatically and no action was required. This change  primarily affected faculty and staff members that use DeSC computers, and those that log into the Princeton domain on Windows computers. Undergraduate students were not included in this update at this time.

Internet Explorer 8 sports many improvements including the following:

  • Security enhancements to help you stay safer online and prevent malware and phishing on your computer
  • A new Favorites toolbar with "Web Slices" to keep you informed on frequently updated websites
  • Accelerators to increase your browsing speed and task productivity
