As Subaward Administrator, Maria Mendes Hartstein has oversight over the subaward process, including preparing, modifying, negotiating, monitoring and closing subawards issued under Princeton’s sponsored projects awards. She provides guidance to the departments and the principal investigator on all administrative and financial issues during the life cycle of the subaward agreement. She also develops and presents sponsored research training, both for group and departmental presentations.
Prior to joining ORPA, Maria was an Associate Director of Corporate Contracts in the Office of Research Services at the University of Pennsylvania. She was responsible for the administration and negotiation of corporate agreements, including clinical trial agreements, sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements as well as corporate subawards. Maria also worked as a Sr. Contract Administrator at the University of Pennsylvania and was responsible for the negotiation and administration of federal sponsored research. Prior to her employment at the University of Pennsylvania, Maria practiced law in the areas of personal injury and bankruptcy for over 10 years. Maria received her Bachelor of Science from Ursinus College in Economics and International Relations and her Juris Doctor of Law from Widener University School of Law.
