During the course of a sponsored project or program the sponsor may find it necessary to issue a modification to the original sponsored award. Many sponsored awards obligate only the first year of funding, so sponsors issue award modifications for future funding increments. Other modifications may be issued for such activities as decreasing funding, extending the period of performance, or revising other terms and conditions of the sponsored award. All written sponsored award modifications must be directed to ORPA. It is the responsibility of ORPA to update the Notice of Award and distribute the modification notification to the PI and Department.
