Module 1: Our Environment

Code of Conduct

Environmental Health and Safety

Princeton University is committed to providing a safe laboratory environment for its faculty, staff, students and visitors. The laboratory may be a source of any number of potential hazards, including chemicals, biological and other materials, radiation, and equipment. Managing the laboratory in a safe manner is not only good practice, but has regulatory implications. Laboratory safety is the primary responsibility of the PI.

There are a number of University policies affecting work in laboratories, covering topics such as training, chemical disposal, laboratory security, respiratory protection, minors in the laboratory and others.

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety manages the University Laboratory Safety Program. The goal of this program is to minimize the risk of injury or illness to laboratory workers by ensuring that they have the training, information, support and equipment needed to work safely.
