Numerous resources exist to help members of the University research community identify funding opportunities from potential sponsors, including government agencies, corporations and foundations, and University-specific sources.
The majority of sponsored awards arise from faculty-initiated proposals to federal sponsors. Additional sources of funding from non-federal sponsors, including corporations and foundations, are aimed at supporting specific goals or programs. Several University funding opportunities are available that support specific research projects or areas.
The Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) administers all externally funded sponsored research awarded to Princeton and is responsible for compliance and regulatory matters related to sponsored research. ORPA also reviews, approves, and submits all sponsored research proposals.
The first step in obtaining research funding is identifying appropriate sponsors and opportunities. Although there is no single database that provides comprehensive information about all grant-providing organizations, there are several internal and external websites that may serve as helpful resources.
