Just-In-Time
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) allows the submission of certain elements of a competing application to be deferred for certain programs and award mechanisms. The elements that can be submitted Just-in-Time (JIT) by the applicant upon request by the NIH include the following:
- Other support
- Certification of Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval of the project’s proposed use of human subjects (when applicable)
- Verification of Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) approval of the project’s proposed use of live vertebrate animals (when applicable)
- Evidence of compliance with the education in the protection of human subjects requirement
JIT Facts
The JIT link next to the application on eRA Commons does not mean that JIT information is being requested. The PI will be contacted directly by the NIH to provide JIT information. Once requested, the information must be uploaded to eRA Commons by ORPA.
Often, the NIH Grants Management Specialist (GMS) will request that the JIT information be emailed to them directly, completely by-passing online JIT submission. Please send a copy of the information submitted to your ORPA Administrator if this is the case.
A request for JIT information is NOT an indication that a project is being funded.
