The University’s research-related training opportunities are not limited to ORPA-provided offerings for departmental administrators. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and students may find numerous training programs. These research-related training programs are required to ensure compliance with federal regulations, to promote safe, ethical, and environmentally sound research practices, and to assist in the identification of relevant sponsor funding opportunities.
Human Research Protections
All researchers who propose to work with human subjects in their research studies must be certified through the completion of an appropriate training program prior to Institutional Review Board (IRB) review of the project. The training and certification requirement applies to all researchers and personnel listed on a protocol, including students, faculty and staff. Visit Office of Research Integrity and Assurance (RIA) Human Research Protections Training for training resources.
Animal Research Protections
Federal policies and regulations require grantees and contractors to follow special guidelines when using animals in projects or activities supported by the federal government. Visit RIA Animal Research Protections Training for training resources.
Responsible Conduct of Research
It is the policy of the University to provide education in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers proactively as an important element in their training, and to undergraduates and other short-term researchers in compliance with federal regulations.
Graduate Students and Long-Term Post Doctoral Researchers should visit the Graduate School Responsible Conduct of Research Website for a listing of all available RCR Training Courses.
Pivot provides a user-friendly web-based system to aid faculty, staff, and students in matching research interests to potential external funding sources and in promoting collaborations with colleagues. Online user training is available on the Pivot Training site. In addition, ORPA can provide a Pivot orientation/training session for any department or group of users who are interested.
