Title: AARP Interns, New Jersey State Office in Princeton
Description: The AARP New Jersey Office, located in Princeton, NJ, has openings for 2009-2010 internship appointments! Interns are provided with superb education on a variety of issues in the state and federal political spheres and gain first-hand knowledge of the New Jersey state legislature and our advocacy work for the 50+ population; this gives interns exposure to real-world applications of the tradeoffs examined in academic contexts. You will play a vital role in the development of advocacy and outreach campaigns and expand your knowledge of the legislative process. You will learn how the largest non-profit organization, dedicated to enriching the lives of older Americans, works and develops, and conveys its message to 40 million members. Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program. Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Must have excellent communication, organizational, writing, and computer skills, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and exercise initiative. This is an unpaid internship/field practicum. Responsibilities include: ï® Monitoring and researching legislative activities; ï® Attending legislative hearings; ï® Meeting with state officials; ï® Conducting research regarding legislative issues; ï® Assisting with planning and implementing grassroots organization tactics and legislative advocacy activities; ï® Working with advocacy staff and grassroots volunteers in the production of materials for legislators, the media, and the public; ï® Assisting with important non-partisan events.
