Planning Your Event at Palmer House

Palmer House is the official guest house for visitors to Princeton University. Use of the sleeping rooms is limited to official University functions only.

For catering, Palmer House is available throughout the year for breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, meetings and receptions. Palmer House is available by special arrangement for official University functions and personal functions for faculty and staff of Princeton University. To make a reservation for catering, please call 609.258.3715 or e-mail palmerh@princeton.edu.

Princeton University alumni can apply for approval to use Palmer House for a personal or family event.  Please call the Innkeeper at 609-258-3715 to obtain details.

Non University, not-for-profit organizations who are interested in using Princeton University facilities, inclusive of Palmer House, must call the Princeton University office of Conference and Event Services at 609-258-6115.

Catered Event Guest Minimums

For use of catering space at Palmer House, the following guests minimum requirements apply:

Monday - Friday

Breakfast & Meeting 10 guests
Lunch 20 guests
Reception & Dinner 20 guests

Saturday - Sunday

Breakfast & Meeting 20 guests
Lunch 30 guests
Reception 30 guests
Reception & Dinner 30 guests

Menu and Beverage Selection

Food and beverage selections are due ten business days prior to the date of your event. When planning your event, please select one menu item from each category. We recognize dietary needs and will happily accommodate any special request to the best of our ability.

Alcoholic Beverage Service

Arrangements for alcoholic beverages may be made directly through Palmer House and billed directly to the client. Clients are welcome to provide their own selections through a supplier of their choice.

Palmer House reserves the right to refuse serving alcoholic beverages to any guest who appears to be under 21 years of age or intoxicated.

750 ml or 1 litre bottles of Alcohol, 750ml of wine and bottled beer will be accepted.

Guest Count Guarantees

To effectively serve you, we require a guaranteed number of guests five days prior to your event. Billing is based on this guarantee or actual number of guests, whichever is greater.

University Cancellations

You may cancel an event by calling 609.258.3715 or via e-mail at palmerh@princeton.edu. For your protection, do not leave a cancellation message on the voice mail.

University cancellations, without penalty, are accepted 7 business days prior to your function; cancellations within 4-6 business days of your event will incur a cancellation fee of $150; cancellations within 3 business days of your event will be charged the full, estimated cost of the event. For personal functions please refer to your contract.

Room Rental Charges

Palmer House does not charge room rental for events that require breakfast, lunch, dinner or break service. Room rental fees apply for meeting space used without food or beverage at the rate of $160 for a three-hour period.

Administrative and Staffing Charges

University events at Palmer House are subject to an administrative fee of 5% of the total bill. Personal events have an administrative fee of 15% of the total bill. The staffing and administrative fees are for the administration of staff and management oversight for the function, are not purported to be a tip or gratuity and will not be distributed as a tip or gratuity to the employees who provided service to the guests.

Staffing charges for Bartenders are $32 per hour and Butlers are $30 per hour; 4-hour minimum.

Special Requests

Palmer House will coordinate all special requests including rentals, linen, audio-visual equipment, flowers or props. The event sponsor is responsible for all costs associated with these items.

Palmer House is handicap accessible. If wheelchair accessibility is required, please let the innkeeper know.

Billing and Methods of Payments

Departments are billed directly through their 7-digit departmental University account number. All University functions are tax exempt. Payments for personal events may be made with major credit card or personal check.

Service Times

Events are booked at Palmer House in time slots. Luncheons are booked in 2-hour time blocks, dinners are booked in 3-hour time blocks and cocktail receptions are booked by the hour.

Over time is charged at a rate of $300 per hour.
