What is the Rideshare Carpool Service?
The Rideshare Carpool Service is a free carpool matching service for the Princeton University community. Participation is voluntary. The program provides interested applicants with a match list of other Princeton University community members who live and work near them and want to carpool. Commuters set up their own carpools to fit their particular commuting needs. This service is available for Princeton University faculty and staff only.

How does it work?
You provide your Princeton University email address to the Rideshare Database along with the other information requested on the online form. The information is entered into the database, and you may wait for someone to contact you or view the “List Rides” link to see if someone meets your criteria.

How do I join?
Princeton University community members can join the Rideshare Carpool Service online.

Steps for using the database:
spacer1. Enter the online Rideshare Database.
spacer2. A screen will appear, click on the section labeled, "Become a Member &
spacer Post a Ride."
spacer3. After reading the rules and regulations, click "I Accept."
spacer4. The next screen will ask for you to create a login ID and password.
spacer5. The following screen is where you enter the information needed to connect
spacer you with another potential carpool candidate. *PLEASE do not put your
spacer exact address; a common location around town or landmark is all that is
spacer needed for the initial step. Once you feel comfortable with the person,
spacer detailed information can then follow.
spacer6. Once you have entered in your information, you may wait for someone to
spacer contact you or you can view "List Rides" to see if someone meets your
spacer criteria.

Example ride description:

Important Information for using database:
spacer• Your contact information is not viewable until you request to make contact.
spacer• If you no longer want to post a ride or have found a match, change your spacerstatus from "Open" to "Close."
spacer• If you and your carpool candidate wish to invite a third person, keep status spacerto "Open."
spacer• If matches are not found within six months, your account will be dissolved. spacerThis assures that viewers are looking at the most up-to-date information spacerand not reaching out to an individual that has either lost interest or is no
spacerlonger employed at the University.
spacer• If, for any reason, you have additional requests there is a “Comments Box”
spacerto post additional information.

Car Pool Incentives and Rewards
Gas Card
Employees who commute via a carpool are eligible to receive a $50 gas card, every three months the carpool remains in operation.* New participants will also receive a $25 additional gas card for signing up for the program. To apply for the incentive, carpoolers must be full time benefit eligible employees, participate in the car pool a minimum of 3 months and carpool 18 or more working days per month. Participants of this program are not eligible for an annual parking permit; however, each carpool will receive one carpool-designated hangtag. The hangtag allows carpoolers to park in any carpool-designated preferred parking space within their assigned parking lot. When participating in the carpool program, participants are eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home program when an emergency arises during working hours. Participants are allowed two free trips per academic year. A small fee is required for any additional trips that may be needed. Please contact Transportation & Parking Services at 609-258-1656 if a ride is needed.

Please complete and submit the Carpool Gas Incentive Card Application.

For more information, please contact Transportation & Parking Services at 258-1656.

*For the gas cards we are providing, the amount of $50 is considered as additional income and will be subject to state and federal taxes. These taxes will be processed through the Princeton University Payroll department following receipt of the gas card.
