Vanpooling (Coming Soon)
Vanpools operate in a similar manner to carpools, only they carry more individuals than a typical carpool. Vanpooling is particularly suitable for longer commutes (10 miles or more each way). The vans are supplied to the University through a third party vendor, which will handle management, maintenance, and insurance of the vehicle. The leasing of the vans is subsidized through Princeton University. The members of the vanpool are asked to supply the fuel costs. The only member who does not pay for fuel is the driver.
Vans can either begin their departure at:
• A Park and Ride location
• A major shopping center
• Driver’s home
Unlike carpools, vanpools need to operate on a daily basis. Because of the number of people depending on the service, it is crucial the van operate on time and everyday. All vans will also have a back-up driver. It is the responsibility of the vanpool driver to notify the back-up driver if he/she will not be able to drive the van the next day.
