Blind Estimation of Multiple Carrier Frequency Offsets

Researchers at Princeton University and Drexel University have developed a new process for signal processing related to wireless communications, specifically to provide blind CFO estimation and symbol recovery.   Princeton is currently seeking industrial collaborators to commercialize this technology.

This invention addresses the problem of carrier-frequency offset estimation in distributed antenna systems.  Existing methods for accomplishing this task require the use of training symbols, which must be transmitted to the receiver, thereby using up valuable bandwidth and power resources.  The principal novelty of this invention is that it accomplishes this task blindly, without the need of resorting to training data.

It is anticipated that this new approach will allow for greater energy and bandwidth efficiency in mobile wireless data transmission.  This invention would most likely be beneficial as software for an access point or base station in a mobile wireless network.   Patent protection is pending.
