PCCM Education Outreach

Making Stuff at Princeton will be held March 1 and 4, 2011. Activities will include an auditorium show about polymers by Prof. Rick Register and his research team. Table activities run by scientists and engineers will feature flexible electronics, bio-inspired materials, laser diffraction, alternative energy, piezo-electrics, bridges, and much more! Some of the faculty to be featured in Dillon Gym include Lynn Loo, Mansour Shayegan, Rod Priestley, and Sigrid Adriaenssens.

This program was made possible by a grant from PBS NOVA as part of a nationwide effort to increase awareness and appreciation for materials science. Our event, and others across the country, will amplify the impact of NOVA's 4-part television series Making Stuff, which begins airing in January 19. NOVA's show is about materials science in general, but our Making Stuff at Princeton event is all about materials science research and innovation at Princeton and its partners.

PCCM is the lead organizer and developer of the activities of the program, but we’ve invited partners to present activities as well.  Partners include PPS-OC, PRISM, Chemistry Department, PPPL, PUMRS, EPICS, Liberty Science Center, Franklin Institute, ACS, and Goodrich Corporation. 

The March 1 and 4 events are two of several Making Stuff programs PCCM is running. The Making Stuff suite of programs conducted by PCCM includes:

• Teacher Workshops (7/6/10, 9/28/10)
• Holiday Lecture Making Stuff Activity Table (12/18/10)
• Pilot tour (1/6/11)
