What is Materials Science?
Materials are the basic substances that make up almost everything! Materials can be natural (like
wood) or human-made (like plastic). If we had more room on this page, we could list almost 300,000 different known materials! Materials scientists create and combine materials in new ways that make new technologies possible.
Did You Know:
Polymers are very big molecules made of smaller molecules (monomers) linked together into long,
repeating chains. You are constantly in contact with polymers. Tires and rubber bands are made of
polymers, so are paints and every kind of plastic. Most of the food you eat and clothes you wear are
made of polymers. Come and learn some of the fascinating history and science behind polymers!
