Eleven Graduate Students Selected to Join PECS
Eleven graduate students have been selected to join the Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars Program for the 2013-2014 academic year.
The 11 newly selected students, hailing from nine (9) departments across campus, will contribute a wide range of climate- and energy-related expertise to the existing group of PECS scholars. Collectively, their interests include: international climate agreements, climate and energy policy and equity in decision-making, battery technology, fuel properties, usage of CO2 waste, solar energy, fracking, nitrogen cycling in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, hydroclimates and flooding in urban environments, and global and regional vegetation fire modeling.
The new graduate students include: Joshua Bennett (English), John Canarella (mechanical and aerospace engineering), Sili Deng (mechanical and aerospace engineering), Phil Hannam (the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs), Yuan Hu (chemistry), Xinwo Huang, (civil and environmental engineering), Kyle Keller (psychology), Sam Rabin (ecology and evolutionary biology), Arvind Ravikumar (electrical engineering), Brianne Smith (civil and environmental engineering), and Xingchen Wang (geosciences).
In May of 2008, the Climate and Energy Challenge initiated the Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars (PECS) Program. PECS brings together a group of talented and engaged Princeton Ph.D. students with research expertise ranging from energy security and technology to climate science and policy. To date, including the new fellows, 52 graduate students have participated in the PECS program.
PECS aims to enhance the research experience of its members by encouraging them to transcend the boundaries of their fields and by fostering a sense of common intellectual adventure. Drawing from a broad range of disciplines, PECS students and members of the Faculty Board have a unique opportunity to thoughtfully approach the multifaceted energy challenges of the 21st century.
The selection process is undertaken jointly by the Faculty Board and members of the student committee.
