"Directional Detection for Dark Matter and Neutrino Physics"

Recently there has been great interest in gas-filled time projection chambers for low-background physics, motivated by searches for directional dark matter detection, neutrino-less double beta decay, and neutrino magnetic moments. The unique feature of such detectors is the ability to reconstruct low energy particle tracks down to tens of keV. I will discuss the potential of this detector technology for two timely applications: first, to correlate a candidate dark matter detection signal with its astrophysical source, and second, to make the first measurement of the K-40 geo-neutrino flux.
