Using order parameters to disentangle biological networks that control decisions
Abstract: How do biological networks process information to make decisions? What are the key circuit elements that control these decisions? Can we identify and manipulate these circuits to control the choices cells and organisms make? In this talk, I'll discuss theoretical, computational and experimental challenges that have to be tackled to answer these questions. In particular, I will present recent studies in our lab on circuits controlling early cell fate choices of mouse embryonic stem cells and those controlling the decision of the nematode C.elegans to turn left or right.
