Application Forms

Application Instructions

Please read these instructions carefully before filling out your application.

If you are applying for financial aid from PiB, your complete application must be received by January 15, 2010. If not, the due date for applications is February 1, 2010. Late applications will only be considered on a space-available basis. Admission is competitive; please apply as soon as possible. Financial aid is limited, and we encourage you to apply to your home university for aid as well.

Princeton students, please note: current Princeton freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and graduate students who want to be considered for financial aid must fill out the Program in East Asian Studies financial aid application form rather than the Princeton in Beijing financial aid application form (i.e. the application is due on February 1, not January 15). Both financial aid forms will be available in the PiB office from December. Current Princeton seniors who want to be considered for financial aid are not eligible for funding from the Program in East Asian Studies and must fill out the PiB financial aid application form instead (i.e. the deadline for seniors applying for financial aid is January 15).

Please do not have your Registrar send  your transcript to us directly; have it sent to you, then include it with the rest of your application. (We receive many applications, and it is exceedingly difficult to keep track of things if the items are not sent in together.) Note: Princeton students, but only Princeton students, may substitute a print-out from the Princeton web. If you have not finished the fall semester at the time you apply, give us an unofficial record of your mid-term grades (such as a print-out from your own school's website). Once you finish the fall term, please have an updated, official transcript sent to the PiB office.

  5. Recommendation. You will need to send one letter of recommendation to PiB. Please have your recommender return the form to you in a signed and sealed envelope (provided by you), which you may then forward to PiB with other materials.  Please note that you need to fill out the top portion of the form first. Your recommendation should be from a Chinese language teacher.  If you have attended PiB in the past, please ask your PiB teacher-in-charge to write your recommendation letter. Otherwise, ask any recent Chinese language teacher to write it.  If you cannot obtain a recommendation from your Chinese language teacher, another teacher may write one for you.  Click the following link to print out a recommendation letter form: PiB Recommendation Letter.
