PII 2014 will be held from Saturday, May 31 to Saturday, July 26, 2014. Detailed information and an online application form will be available at end-November, 2013.
PII is a very competitive program, accepting only about 50 participants each summer. Applicants should be highly motivated to learn Japanese and to immerse themselves in Japanese culture, while serving as grassroots ambassadors.
An applicant must belong to an accredited institution and should have completed at least one year of college Japanese classes by the time he/she attends PII.

After you submit your online application form, a receipt will be sent to your e-mail address. Print out the receipt and put it into the mailing application packet in step 2 below.
Step 2: Complete an application packet, including all of the following items:

Please write your name on the receipt.
One-page statement of purpose (in English), 12-point font size and single-spaced
Official grade transcript
Please enclose an official transcript including your fall 2012 grades. Do not send an unofficial printout of your grades, a report card, or a copy of your transcript. Official transcripts are available only from your school's Office of the Registrar. Please do not have your Registrar send your transcript to us directly; have the transcript sent to you, then enclose it in your application packet.

Please pay by check (to the order of PII); all payments should be made in US dollars. Do not send cash.
Two Letters of Recommendation (PDF) (Word), each with its respective ‘Checklist of Already-Learned Grammatical Items’ These must all be filled out by your Japanese instructors, one of whom must be your instructor in fall 2012. (Before forwarding the recommendation forms to your recommenders, be sure to fill in the information requested in the box on the first page.)

The application packet to the PII program must be received by February 8, 2013.
Failure to submit all the required documents by this date may disqualify your application from consideration.
PII will inform you of the results of the admission process by March 10, 2013. Even if you are on a waiting list, you will still have a good chance to be admitted later; some accepted candidates may withdraw.
