Zoopoetics: The Animal in French Literature
Directors: Andre Benhaim (Princeton) Anne Simon (CNRS/EHESS, Paris)
Date/Time: 10/17/14 at 09:00 am - 10/18/14 at 6:00 pm
The central question of the colloquium is the status of the animal per se in modern French literature: not as a mere figure of style, but as a living being whose study is of comparable significance as that of humans. We want to show how through the evaluation of these fictions, we, as scholars, reach beyond the realm of literary poetics to engage in a dialogue with other disciplines more commonly associated with animal studies.
