Council of American Overseas Research Centers Critical Language Scholarship foreign languages Group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to 10 weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master ’s, and Ph.D. students.   Part of   U.S. government effort to expand   the number of Americans studying and mastering critical-need foreign languages. DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service Intensive Language Courses in Germany German language Grants for graduate students at North American universities to attend eight-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany. December 15, 2012
Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Program International and foreign language education Provides grants to fund individual doctoral students to conduct research in other countries in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of 6 to 12 months. Istituto Italiano di Culture   Italian language Scholarships to students who wish to study the Italian language and culture in Italy are offered through The Italian Cultural Institute in New York.   The scholarships consist of free tuition at schools, academies, or centers where Italian is taught to foreigners in Italy. Institute of Turkish Studies   Turkish language study For graduate students in the social sciences or humanities for summer travel to Turkey for language study in preparation for graduate research at an established Ottoman or Turkish language facility. See website
Korea Foundation Fellowship for Korean Language Training Korean language Awarded to researchers and graduate students studying Korean Studies subjects who wish to have an opportunity to take a language immersion program and learn Korean in a systematic manner at a university in Korea. See website
Yale MacMillan Center East Asian Studies Summer Language Mini-Grants Japanese, Chinese, and Korean Support for the summer language study of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Master’s students, Ph.D. students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and graduate students in the professional schools are eligible. See website
Yale MacMillan Center Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships Foreign anguage studies Available to graduate and professional school students whose academic work includes foreign language study and whose career plans include teaching, public service or business related to African studies, European studies, or Middle East studies.
