PIIRS Summer Study Abroad Open House

PIIRS will hold an open house/information session about  the  2014 PIIRS Global Seminars and Princeton in Dar es Salaam  on November 20, 2013,  from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in  219 Aaron Burr Hall.

The event is open to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and will feature presentations by the  course directors. Pizza will be served.

PIIRS is offering six seminars in 2014: in Baku, Azerbaijan; Accra, Ghana; Athens, Greece; Mysore, India; Galway, Ireland; and Geneva, Switzerland.

Each seminar, open to 15 freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, is designed to provide students with new opportunities and incentives to explore the international dimensions of their academic interests. The seminars are led by faculty who have created a unique program of study that can only be fully experienced by traveling to the city and country at the heart of its subject matter. Daily lectures by seminar faculty and guests, daily language classes, weekend excursions to sites relevant to the course, and community service make up the course prospectus.

Princeton in Dar es Salaam is a summer study abroad program based in the Institute of Kiswahili Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. It offers Princeton students an intensive experience that combines in-class Swahili language study with immersion in the daily life and culture of the Swahili-speakers in the city of Dar es Salaam. The program is directed by Mahiri Mwita, a PIIRS lecturer, and runs from June 9 - August 1, 2014. It is sponsored by the Program in African Studies, a PIIRS affiliate, in conjuction with the Office of International Programs. For more information go to
