PiLA was established in 2002 by a dedicated group of Princeton students, alumni, staff, and faculty as an independent nonprofit organization seeking to strengthen in the Americas the fulfillment of the University's motto, "In the nation's service, and in the service of all nations." PiLA matches outstanding recent college graduates who are interested in year-long service fellowships with partner NGO and multilateral organizations that are engaged in socially responsible development efforts throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Since its inception, PiLA has placed some 280 fellows with dozens of partners around the region. PiLA seeks to have a constructive, measurable, and sustainable impact on our fellows, partner NGOs, and the communities our partners serve.
