PiLA was established in 2002 by an enthusiastic group of Princeton students, alumni and faculty as an independent non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening in the Americas the fulfillment of the University's motto, "Princeton in the nation's service, and in the service of all nations."
PiLA strives to be the premier organization in offering recent
college graduates service experiences in Latin America and the
Caribbean that will foster the skills, character and compassion
necessary to serve as global leaders. Our mission is to
match recent graduates from Princeton and other top colleges and
universities who are interested in year-long service fellowship
opportunities with partner organizations that are engaged in socially
responsible development projects in the region. Over its 12 years of existence, PiLA has placed over 200 fellows with more than 50 partners in seventeen countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. PiLA's long-term strategy is to place some 100 fellows each year, and to have a constructive, measurable impact on our fellows, on our partner NGOs, and on the communities our partners serve.
