Margarita López Maya is Professor of Political Science at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. She has published several celebrated books, articles, and edited volumes focusing on social movements in Latin America.  She has been a Tinker Foundation fellow, an Andrés Bello fellow at Oxford University, and a visiting fellow at the Helen Kellogg Institute among many other distinctions. Her publications include: “The Venezuelan Caracazo of 1989: Popular Protest and Institutional Weakness” (JLAS: 2003), Venezuela: confrontación social y polarización política (Medófilo Medina & Margarita López Maya, Bogotá, Aurora: 2003), Del Viernes Negro al Referendo Revocatorio (Caracas, Grupo Alfa: 2006 & 2007), “Examining Participatory Innovations in Bolivarian Caracas, (Quarterly Bulletin of Third World Studies: 2008), Ideas para debatir el socialismo del siglo XXI, vols 1 & 2 (Margarita López Maya, editor, Caracas, Editorial Alfa: 2007 & 2009),  “Venezuela: once años de gestión de Hugo Chávez y sus fuerzas bolivarianas 1999-2010” (Temas y debates N°20, Buenos Aires: 2010).
 
Luis Lander is Professor of Political Science at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He has published more than 70 articles, and edited volumes focusing on oil politics and suffrage in Venezuela.  Currently, he is the director of Observatorio electoral venezolano. His publications include: Decisiones misteriosas. Las circunscripciones electorales y la elecciones de septiembre (2010); Las injusticias consagradas. ¿Qué pasó el 26 de septiembre en Venezuela? (2010); Venezuela´s Presidential Elections of 2006: Toward 21st Century Socialism? (2011, coauthored with Margarita López Maya), among many others.
