Support for Undergraduate Research, Travel, and Internships
PLAS is committed to promoting student research, experience and personal and professional growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through a series of competitive annual applications, PLAS supports undergraduates in a variety of disciplines as they pursue summer field research and internships throughout the region.
- Via the competitive Sigmund Scholars Award, PLAS funds innovative student initiatives to study and travel for a summer in Latin America; applications are especially encouraged from freshmen and sophomores.
- Every summer, PLAS offers senior thesis research funding to enable juniors to carry out fieldwork throughout the region.
- PLAS also sponsors the annual Stanley Stein Senior Thesis Prize for the best work on a Latin American or Caribbean topic, and the Kenneth Maxwell Senior Thesis Prize in Brazilian and Portuguese Studies, given to the best thesis on a topic related to Brazil.
- In addition, working with the International Internships Program, each summer PLAS funds numerous internships throughout the region.
Graduating seniors seeking postgraduate support may wish to consider the Martin A. Dale '53 Fellowship or the Henry Richardson Labouisse '26 Prize. See the complete list of postgraduate fellowship opportunities.
