Jennifer Widner's current research interests lie in four areas: constitution writing & conflict resolution, institutional performance, development of judicial institutions, and African politics. She is author or editor of several books and articles on these topics, including Building the Rule of Law (W.W. Norton) and Economic Change and Political Liberalization in Sub-Saharan Africa (Johns Hopkins). Her work has appeared in the American Journal of International Law, Comparative Politics, the Journal of Development Studies, and other periodicals.
