Department of Politics at Princeton University

Professor Gordenker has continued his research and publishing, as well as his Princeton ties, even after the occasion of his formal retirement from the University. His present research interests focus on the United Nations Secretariat and Secretary-General. He is the author most recently of The United Nations at the End of the 1990s (with P.R. Baehr, 1999); Non-Governmental Organizations, the United Nations and Global Governance (with T.G. Weiss, 1996); and International Cooperation in Response to AIDS (with Roger Coate et al, 1995). On the occasion of his retirement, colleagues and friends produced The United Nations in the World Political Economy: Essays in Honor of Leon Gordenker, (David P. Forsythe, ed., London, Macmillan, 1989).

He has been a Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences, a Fulbright research professor at Leiden University (1984-85); and a Fulbright Fellow in Paris. His research has been sponsored by the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Social Science Research Council.

At Princeton, Professor Gordenker served as Director of the African Studies Program and as Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Politics. He retired from the Politics faculty in 1986.
