Advising process
Each student has at least two formal advising relationships in the department each year: a departmental adviser and an adviser for independent work.
Departmental advisers
The following faculty members are available to advise students on their progress through the undergraduate program in Politics:
- Seniors Adviser: Melissa Harris-Lacewell
- Juniors Adviser: Markus Prior
- Independent Work Adviser: Melissa Harris-Lacewell
- Political Economy Adviser: John Londregan
- Study Abroad Adviser: Evan Lieberman
Advisers for independent work
Every summer, the department produces directories of faculty members who will advise students on their senior theses and spring junior papers (JPs). These directories contain information about the advisers’ specialties and interests. Students review the directories, then approach faculty members from the list to inquire about their availability. All active faculty members serve as advisers for independent work, but the availability of a particular faculty member depends on his or her other responsibilities as well as the fit between the student's plans and the adviser's specializations.
