Sources of Information

The Graduate School Announcement provides information about the University and the Graduate School. It contains details of graduate programs, academic regulations, and degree requirements, and has a map of the main campus. Comprehensive information about Princeton University may be accessed through the University’s Web site.

A Guide for International Students provides basic information specific to international students such as visa status maintenance and cross cultural adjustment.

Rights, Rules, Responsibilities offers information on University-wide regulations and the Princeton University community as well as specific Graduate School policies and procedures. Students receive this booklet and the Graduate School Announcement at registration in the fall.

McCosh Health Services provides students information on the Student Health Plan and their services in A Guide to Your Campus Health Services distributed at registration.

There are a number of informative booklets published by various University offices. Butler and Lawrence residents receive Apartment Life for Graduate Students, published by the University Housing Office. Residence Life and Dining Services for Graduate Students, also published by the Housing Office, and A Grad Student’s Guide to the Universe, published by the Graduate College House Committee, are available to Graduate College and Annex residents.

There are also several books of interest about Princeton. A Princeton Guide, by Cynthia Gooding and Mercedes Rogers, published by Middle Atlantic Press, Somerset, New Jersey, is especially useful. This book can be purchased in town or can be found in the New Jersey reference section at the public library at the Princeton Shopping Center, on North Harrison Street.

The Orange Key Guide Service, located in Frist Campus Center, conducts regular and special tours of the campus and is a good source of historical information about the campus and its buildings. An online version of the campus tour is available.

The Daily Princetonian, the student newspaper, prints campus news and events. Subscriptions are available from its office at 48 University Place or on-line.

The Princeton Weekly Bulletin (PWB) lists University events of general interest such as lectures, seminars, concerts, religious services, exhibitions, athletic events, theatrical performances, and meetings sponsored by departments or recognized student organizations. Free copies are distributed in graduate residential units. Graduate students who do not reside in University housing can obtain subscriptions by writing to the PWB at Princeton University, 22 Chambers Street, Suite 201, Princeton, New Jersey 08542. Please indicate that you are a graduate student.

Complimentary copies of the Princeton Alumni Weekly are available in the Graduate College and in Butler and Lawrence Apartments. The PAW is published once or twice a month (17 issues a year) and carries campus news and articles of interest to alumni, including notes about graduate alumni, teaching, and scholarship.

The Princeton Community Phone Book and Classified Pages (better known as the Centrex) lists Princeton telephone numbers and includes a separate section for University office extensions. It also has yellow pages, a street guide, and listings of Princeton clubs and organizations. Copies are available at the Telecommunications Services Office in Frist Campus Center.

Classified ads in Town Topics, the Princeton Packet, and the Daily Princetonian are good sources of information on apartments for rent or items for sale.

Newspapers such as the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Trentonian, the Trenton Times, and the Village Voice and magazines such as New York and the New Yorker are the best sources of information for news of these cities.

Bulletin boards, located in most residential complexes and common areas such as the University Store and Frist Campus Center, are always worth checking. Students who can offer or who want car rides place notices on these boards. Many students also place notices for rides, apartments to sublet, furniture for sale, and other ads on the Classified Ads section of the University’s Web site.
