The Graduate College houses approximately 420 students in buildings located about one half mile (a 15-minute walk) from the center of campus. The Old Graduate College, built in 1913 and expanded in 1927, consists largely of one- and two-room suites for one or two students; many rooms have private or semiprivate bathrooms. The New Graduate College, constructed in 1962 and directly adjacent to the Old Graduate College, contains single rooms with one shared bathroom for the 8 to 12 people in each hallway. Every resident of both the New and Old Graduate College dormitories is required to select a meal contract. All University dormitory buildings are smoke-free. Pets that can be humanely restricted to cages, bowls, or aquaria are permitted at the Graduate College. Internet access is available in all rooms.
Two types of arrangements for housing are available at the Graduate College: coresidential floors, and male or female by floor. Bathrooms on coresidential floors are shared by male and female residents. Bathrooms on single-sex floors are single sex according to the sex of the residents of that floor.
The single rooms in the Old Graduate College are especially attractive and usually are chosen by students who will be in their second year. There are a number of single rooms available to incoming students in the New Graduate College, but all incoming students should accept the possibility of having a roommate.
The Graduate College House Committee and the Graduate School sponsor social, cultural, athletic, and intellectual programs that help create a sense of community for residents.
The list of current fees and expenses shows general charges (see page 18). Residents are assessed house dues to cover services and programs provided by the Graduate College House Committee. Rooms have basic furniture that includes a mattress and bed frame, desk, desk chair, and dresser; however, students must provide their own bed linens, blankets, and pillows. Parking is available through the TigerCard Office for a fee. Cooking is not permitted in Graduate College or Annex rooms. For more information on housing options and policies, visit the Housing Department’s website at facilities.princeton.edu/housing.
The Graduate College Annexes are converted homes that have both single and double rooms. They are located directly adjacent to the campus, about three blocks from the Graduate College. Some 80 students are housed in the Annexes. Residents of the Graduate College Annexes are not required to eat at the Graduate College, but they may choose to participate in one of the meal plans. There are kitchens in all of the Annex houses. Residents in Annexes are assessed house dues and may enjoy all social facilities and functions of the Graduate College. Rooms in the Annexes have basic furniture; a bed, a desk, chair, and a bureau.
Pets that can be humanely restricted to cages, bowls, or aquaria are permitted at the Annexes. Internet access is available in the Annexes. Few spaces are available for incoming students in the Annexes.
