The Program in Contemporary European Politics and Society (EPS) encourages the study of contemporary Eastern and Western Europe. It sponsors colloquia, round-tables, and lectures on historical and contemporary aspects of European societies. A year-long European studies colloquium provides a forum for dealing with issues relating to transitions to democracy in Eastern Europe and the consolidation of democracy in Western Europe.
The program is also responsible for the Center of French Studies, created in 1993 by the French government. The center provides support for colloquia and conferences, as well as exchange programs and the preparation of new courses concerning aspects of French culture.
The EPS program facilitates the opportunity for study abroad for graduate students desiring to conduct research on their dissertations.
