Princeton astrophysicist receives National Medal of Science at presidential ceremony

President Bill Clinton awarded the National Medal of Science to 12 scientists, including Princeton astrophysicist Jeremiah P. Ostriker, at a ceremony in Washington D.C. Friday.

Ostriker, who also serves as the University's provost, received the award in recognition of his contributions to the field of astrophysics, including insights into the dynamics of galaxies and star clusters and the existence of large quantities of dark matter.

The award ceremony, held at Washington's National Museum Building, was preceded by a roundtable discussion in which the laureates addressed the future of science and technology education.
