Performance-filled weekend includes dance, drama and concert A diverse assortment of student performances is taking place on campus this week, including Indian and Mexican dancers, an African-American themed play and an orchestra concert.
Naacho, Princeton's Indian dance troupe, will perform "Jalsa (Celebration)" at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 6-7, at the Frist Campus Center theater. "Jalsa" is Naacho's first full production and will feature a variety of expressive Indian dance styles, as well as guest performances by belly dancers and a bhangra team. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Frist ticket office, (609) 258-1742. Ballet-Folklórico de Princeton, a Mexican folk dancing group, will perform "De Punta y Tacón" at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Frist Campus Center theater. The show will combine tap dancing, mariachi music, vibrant costumes and flying machetes. Tickets are $4 and are available at the Frist ticket office. Also this week, the Black Arts Company will perform "The Colored Museum" at 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Wilcox Black Box Theater in Wilson College. The play examines black stereotypes through a series of vignettes, or "exhibits," beginning on a slave ship. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased through the Frist ticket office. The Princeton University Orchestra will present performances by winners of its 2003 concerto competition at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall. Senior Lisa Ramani Jager will perform a clarinet concerto by Artie Shaw and her classmate Sean-Avram Carpenter will perform a violin concerto by Jean Sibelius. Tickets are $5 for students, $15 for general audiences and are available at the Richardson Auditorium box office, (609) 258-5000. More campus events are listed on the Public Events Calendar. |
