Figure Skating Club and Raks Odalisque present spring shows Purple crocuses have sprouted, and flowering trees are showing buds. But these are not the only signs of spring on campus. Student groups are greeting the season with a Middle Eastern dance performance and a figure skating show.
The Figure Skating Club will present its annual spring show, entitled “Fire and Ice,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29 in Baker Rink. The student-run club, founded in 1994, travels to intercollegiate competitions in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. Their collegiate synchronized skating team has competed nationally, and the group also hosts an annual intercollegiate competition. Tickets for the show are $5 for students, $7 for general admission, and $3 for children and can be purchased at the Frist ticket office or at the door. Raks Odalisque will perform its third annual spring dance at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 27-29, at the Frist Campus Center theater. The performance will feature group and solo dances choreographed by the group's student members, including Turkish and Armenian styles, veil dances and flamenco routines. The troupe evolved from a group of students taking belly dance classes at Dillon Gym. They performed for the first time at Communiversity in 2000, and have since danced at Tiger Night, the International Festival and off campus events. Tickets for the production are $6 for students and $10 for general audiences. They can be purchased at the Frist ticket office, (609) 258-1742. More campus events are listed on the Public Events Calendar. |
