From August 1 through 15, Princeton hosted the 10th World Junior Men's tournament at Jadwin Gym -- the first time any world championship was ever hosted in the United States. On August 8 Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia won the individual championship, defeating Wael Hatem El-Hendy of Egypt. On August 15, England defeated Egypt for the team championship, with Pakistan and France placing third and fourth.
The tournament featured nearly 200 players under 19 years of age, in both individual and team competition, with the three-man teams representing 32 different countries. The final rounds were played in a specially designed four glass-wall court that provided visibility for 1,000 spectators on the main floor of the gym.
