Scott Perkins (photo by Susan Geller) is one of
the seniors studying biophysics in a program that
will benefit from a recent $1.9 million grant made
by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to support
undergraduate education at Princeton.
The grant includes
approximately $740,000 for the undergraduate
certificate Program in Biophysics. Now in its
second year, this program offers a curriculum that
integrates molecular biology and physics, without
giving either discipline superficial treatment,
says director Edward Cox, Edwin Grant Conklin
Professor of Biology.
The program is
designed to prepare a new generation of scientists
for the "postgenomics world" that will arrive
within a few years when the mapping of the human
genome is complete, he explains.
