Strengthening Global Social Justice Is Subject of WWS Talk
PRINCETON, N.J. -- John Langmore, director of the Division for Social Policy in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs in the United Nations Secretariat, will give a lecture entitled "Strengthening Global Social Justice" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Thursday, March 5, at 4:30 p.m., in Robertson Hall, Bowl 5.
Langmore joined the U.N. Secretariat in January 1997. Previously he served for twelve years as a member of the Australian Parliament, where he chaired committees that conducted inquiries on several aspects of social policy and development. He chaired the Australian National Committee for the World Summit for Social Development and was deputy leader of the Australian delegation to each of the Preparatory Committee meetings.
Before being elected to Parliament, Langmore was an economic adviser to ministers. He also worked in Papua New Guinea for thirteen years as a university lecturer and as assistant director of the National Planning Office.
Langmore has published numerous articles on national and international economic and social policy, international peace and security, and the environment. He recently co-authored Work for All, which addresses employment issues, and co-edited Alternative Strategies for Papua New Guinea and Wealth, Poverty, and Survival.
Langmore's lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
