Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics
This interdisciplinary program offers an undergraduate certificate in applied and computational mathematics as well as graduate degrees. Mathematics has always been recognized as fundamental to the natural sciences and to all engineering disciplines, and the importance of computation is growing rapidly within the humanities and social sciences. The faculty associated with the program come from a wide variety of disciplines, and they create new mathematics, new mathematical models, and new methods of computation that influence the scholarly direction of their disciplines.
The undergraduate certificate is designed for students from engineering and from the physical, biological, and social sciences who are looking to broaden their mathematical and computational skills. It is also an opportunity for mathematically oriented students to discover the challenges presented by applications from the natural and social sciences and from engineering. Students interested in the undergraduate certificate should contact the program undergraduate representative in the spring semester of their sophomore year.
