Program in Finance

The Bendheim Center for Finance promotes research and teaching in finance. The center is interdisciplinary in nature, drawing its faculty from economics, engineering, and other departments.

The Bendheim Center oversees an undergraduate certificate program in finance, available to students in any concentration. This multi-disciplinary program is designed for students who wish to blend the study of finance with another area of concentration. Admission into the program occurs during the spring term of sophomore year. Details and application forms are available on the Web page of the Bendheim Center at www.princeton.edu/~bcf. Questions about the program should be addressed to the program representative at sbhatt@princeton.edu.

The finance certificate is fairly quantitative in its requirements, reflecting the nature of the subject. Prerequisites for entering the program include calculus at the second-year level, introductory statistics, and intermediate microeconomics (Economics 310). The requirements for the certificate itself are: (1) completion of a core sequence of courses in finance, Economics 362 and Economics 363, typically during the junior year; (2) completion of at least three additional finance-related electives; and (3) the inclusion of a substantial finance-related component in the senior thesis or independent work. A list of elective courses from a variety of departments is on the Web site. Relevant courses not on the list of preapproved electives may nevertheless be counted as electives with the prior written approval of the program representative. Program courses may not be taken on a pass/D/fail basis.
