Greetings from the Dean of the College

Dear Class Members:

The Office of the Dean of the College (which has responsibility for the academic well-being of undergraduates at Princeton) joins in welcoming you to the University. The staff of our office is eager to help you make your academic experience at Princeton as fruitful and successful as possible.

Your residential college deans and directors of studies are available to provide help and advice on most any topic. Seek them out when you want to talk about your academic ambitions, or when you have even the slightest concern about any of your courses, or when you want to craft special programs and opportunities. They are good listeners and can provide a number of helpful suggestions about additional resources that may be useful. Do not wait until late in the semester to seek help about a problem or concern that has been on your mind for a number of weeks. Dealing with problems early on allows for more ways to remedy the situation.

In addition to your college dean and director of studies, your academic adviser (a member of the Princeton faculty) is a good person to turn to for questions you might have about your courses or academic plans. Take advantage of the office hours that your course instructors hold each term. By all means introduce yourself to your professors and preceptors, and do not hesitate to seek them out when you have questions about your courses.

We wish you the best as you embark on your undergraduate career at Princeton. We look forward to getting to know you.

— Nancy Weiss Malkiel, Dean of the College
