New look debuts for BulletinThe Princeton Weekly Bulletin is starting off this academic year with a new look and a substantially new staff. During the summer, the publication was redesigned. "We wanted to give the Bulletin an updated look that would help make it more lively, engaging and informative," said Ruth Stevens, editor.
In addition to having a new appearance, the publication has some new content. "In general, we're trying to move away from publishing information readily available elsewhere to make room for all the features, photographs and other kinds of news that the Bulletin previously wasn't able to accommodate," Stevens said. One example is the employment postings, which are available online (see related article below). "We plan to publish a wide range of news and feature stories covering all areas of the University, from academics to campus life and from students to faculty and staff to alumni," she added. Stevens joined the Office of Communications staff Aug. 1. For 15 years, she supervised news and public information activities at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where she also edited the faculty-staff newspaper. Previously, she had similar responsibilities at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. She has been a consultant for the last two years with George Dehne & Associates, advising colleges and universities on admissions and communications issues. Stevens earned her bachelor of arts degree from Central Michigan University and her master of business administration degree from Western Michigan University. Also new to the Bulletin is staff writer Yvonne Chiu Hays. She came to Princeton July 15 after working for four years as a reporter at the Sacramento Bee. A 1995 graduate of Dartmouth College, Hays served as editor-in-chief and chair of the Dartmouth daily student newspaper. She completed internships at several leading newspapers, including the Washington Post and the New York Times. Continuing on the Bulletin staff are calendar editor Carolyn Geller, an 18-year employee in the communications office, and photographer Denise Applewhite, a nine-year employee. "We encourage people to let us know what they think about the new look and content--as well as to provide us with story ideas and information to share with the University community," Stevens said. Stevens can be reached at 258-5735 or <mailto:rstevens@princeton.edu>. The Bulletin will continue to be published weekly during the academic year, except during breaks and exam weeks. A complete publication schedule is available on the Web at <http://www.princeton.edu/pr/pwb/deadlines.html>.
