Local residents can audit classes

Residents of the area can take advantage of the rich academic resources available in their own backyard through the Princeton Community Auditing Program.

The University allows individuals who register -- on a non-credit basis -- to attend lectures that are part of the regular course offerings for undergraduate students. In addition, auditors receive course handouts and participate in special receptions and programs. Generally, no seminars, precepts, graduate level classes, labs or class discussions are available for auditing.

While fall semester registration is closed, spring semester registration is already scheduled at the Frist Campus Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 12-14. After Dec. 15, it is possible to register by mail. The final deadline for mail-in registration is Jan. 15.

More information about spring courses will be available beginning Dec. 12 at the Frist Campus Center, on the table outside of 321 Nassau Hall or at this Web site <http://www.princeton.edu/pr/pub/cap>.

The spring semester auditing fee per course is $50 to cover administrative costs and course materials. However, the fee will increase to $75 for the next academic year, beginning with the fall semester. In cases of financial hardship, special accommodations regarding the fee can be made. The fee is waived for: Princeton alumni; docents of the University Art Museum; current and retired members of the faculty and staff; and spouses of Princeton alumni, faculty, staff and graduate students.

The Community Auditing Program should not be confused with the Continuing Education Program, which entitles an individual to all privileges given to a fully enrolled student at a cost of $3,200 per class. The Office of Community and State Affairs administers both programs. For more information, call 258-0202.
