Women's resources showcased Oct. 25

Avariety of information to help women enhance their lives at work, home and school will be available Wednesday, Oct. 25, at a resource fair sponsored by the President's Standing Committee on the Status of Women.

The event, "Women in the New Millennium," will run from noon to 2 p.m. in the Frist Campus Center Multipurpose Room and is open to faculty, staff and students.

Participants will range from on-campus offices like Career Services to off-campus organizations like the New Jersey Division on Women. Energy secretary to lecture

    

U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson will present a lecture at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in Robertson Hall's Dodds Auditorium.

In his two years of service as secretary, Richardson has instituted sweeping reform of security programs and established new counter-intelligence measures, including an innovative cyber security program.

Previously, Richardson served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 1997 to 1998 and served seven terms as a congressman from New Mexico. He has been President Clinton's special envoy on many sensitive missions, negotiating the release of hostages, American service personnel and prisoners in North Korea, Iraq, Cuba and Sudan. He has twice been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Richardson's lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.


Writer presents her words

    

Author Lorrie Moore will read from her work at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Film Theater, 185 Nassau St. She will be introduced by Joyce Carol Oates, the Roger Berlind '52 Professor in the Humanities.

Moore is the author of stories and novels, including "Like Life, Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?" and "Birds of America." Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, "The Best American Short Stories" and "Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards."

A professor of English at the University of Wisconsin, she has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Guggenheim Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, American Academy of Arts and Letters and Ingram Merrill Foundation.

The reading is sponsored by the Althea Ward Clark Creative Writing Series.


Prince of Wales Band

    

The Prince of Wales Band will appear with the Black Watch Drums and Pipes and Highland Dancers at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in Jadwin Gym. This full-scale military tattoo, including solo Scottish sword dancing, will combine highland dancing and pipe and drum music.



Vendor fair set

The Purchasing Department will sponsor its annual vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the Frist Campus Center Multipurpose Room.

The fair will provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to meet contract vendors and learn about their products and services and their direct cost benefits to departments. In addition, brief information sessions will cover a wide range of topics. Some of the University's financial providers will be on hand to promote programs for individual employees.


Academy of Ancient Music

    

Violinist Andrew Manze will lead the London-based Academy of Ancient Music in a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach's music at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at McCarter Theatre. For ticket information, call 258-2787 or visit <http://www.mccarter.org>.
