Search committee proceeds in outreach phase

Members of the Presidential Search Committee have been continuing their work in the outreach phase of the search process during the past few weeks.

Open forums for faculty, staff and students have taken place. Topics discussed during the forums ranged from Princeton's relative strengths, weaknesses and current opportunities to the characteristics the new president should possess.

Committee members also are meeting with their constituencies in small groups to gather information. In addition, the committee has received numerous responses by mail, fax and e-mail. The committee was scheduled to convene again late the week of Nov. 13.

Those interested in providing comments may send them by campus mail to Thomas Wright, secretary of the University and of the search committee, at 217 Nassau Hall; by fax at 258-0058; by e-mail at <mailto:pusec@princeton.edu>; or by completing the Web suggestion form found on the Presidential Search Committee home page at <http://web.princeton.edu/sites/vp&sec/presidentialsearch/>. All written comments will be considered confidential, and will only be available to the search committee.

The committee, which includes nine trustees, five faculty members, three students and one staff member, is charged with making a recommendation to the Board of Trustees on a successor to Harold T. Shapiro, who plans to complete his presidency at the end of this academic year.
