Trustees promote, reappoint
At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Board of Trustees acted on
faculty promotions and reappointments.
Promotions
In economics, Robert Shimer will be promoted to
associate professor with continuing tenure, effective Feb.
1, 2001. Shimer has been conducting research on search
theory, producing several papers for professional journals.
He also has been applying his work to empirical topics, such
as the reasons for the extraordinarily low unemployment rate
in the United States. An assistant professor at Princeton
since 1996, Shimer holds a 1990 B.A. from Yale University, a
1992 M.Phil. from Oxford University and a 1996 Ph.D. from
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In English, Kyungwon Hong has been promoted to
assistant professor for a term of three years beginning July
1, 2000. A specialist in Asian-Ameican literature, she has a
1992 B.A. and 1994 M.A. from the University of
California-Los Angeles and a 2000 Ph.D. from the University
of California-San Diego. She has been an instructor at
Princeton since 1999.
Reappointments
In architecture, Guy Nordenson has been
reappointed as an associate professor with continuing
tenure, effective July 1, 2000.
The following assistant professors have been reappointed
for a one-year extension, beginning July 1, 2001:
In architecture, Alessandra Ponte; in chemical
engineering, Jeffrey Carbeck; and in Romance
languages and literatures, Jean Kehrès.
